Keeping Good Oral Habits

You’ve just finished your work at the office and since you are tired, you fall asleep immediately you arrive at home forgetting to brush your teeth. This is a common happening for most people but you should remember that skipping or ignoring your oral hygiene has its consequences. Here are some good oral habits that will help you keep your smile healthy.

Brushing your teeth

For you to keep your teeth healthy, you have to brush them regularly. S sticky, colorless film known as plaque usually build up on your teeth every day. You can identify the presence of plaque by running your tongue over your teeth. If you feel sticky or rough, plaque could be cause. When this film combines with sugars from the drinks and foods you take every day, it creates acids which ultimately erode cause cavities and erode the enamel.

When plaque is left on the teeth for a longer time it increases the likelihood of tooth decay. Over time, plaque becomes tartar, a hard deposit that results in gum disease. It is, therefore, important to brush your teeth at least twice a day to get rid of tartar and plaque.

Flossing

Brushing alone can’t clean every place in your mouth. There are tight places between your teeth that a toothbrush bristles can’t reach. Plaque tends to build up in such areas. The best tool for cleaning plaque from these hard-to-reach places is the dental floss. Flossing can help you prevent cavities between your teeth.

Protecting your teeth using Mouthwashes

You don’t want to talk to someone with a bad breath coming out of your mouth. A good way of keeping a fresh breath is using mouthwash. Mouthwash (that contains fluoride) also helps in protecting your teeth from cavities.
